Behold, a stranger wandered into our city, on his head was a luggage, his arms were water jars and behind him was an escort. He looked poor but gold was written all over his attire- behold a paradox. In his luggage were two rose flowers, so beautifully red like blood. Fairness was their name, and in their veins flowed not blood but streams of addictive particles-. They were pure and innocent, yet they were the ones foretold to bring chaos into our city.
Our ladies soon faded away, they were no competition for the later. Flies flocked around me, swam of flies combat for my concern. But what could I do? My senses were designed to be pulled by influence. Fairness was just a section of the center of these mermaids. So different were they in art and culture. Their voices were not cheap; surely they had been brought up well.
They move on petals of shipped gold and were ready not to lay quiet on shell of eggs for any man. Men they adore but tamed was their heart. Funke and Tolu were their names, though common but it sounded different when pronounced. Who has caused bewitchment to our city? Who was their hidden sorcerer?
I worked my way to the strangers yard, in hope to find for myself an hour, and if worthy, an eternity of bounded souls. In my lips were all manner of seduction but I was wowed and thrown in a labyrinth. How mighty were the walls of Funke’s heart- shame be the security of Babylon. I walked up to the younger, in hope of delighting in her youthfulness, but how great were her perceptions- shame be unto the great walls of china, for it was no match for the might of her walls. Who taught these girls the art of selective absorption? In them lies a vast knowledge our wise men were void of.
I walked towards the king palace in hope to dissolve his cabinet, they were a company of fools. Which of them was match for the roses beauty which shown of intelligence. The stranger who is a refugee has in his bosom the key to our survival. “O king, permit me to deliver our people from extinction, not by sword, nor by witchcraft but by knowledge. For in the midst of gross darkness, I had found light. Light that puts the rays of the sun to rest, for it had shown enough. And until time passes over these maidens, and the dust have its own share of their bones and flesh, let us milk from the cows” I cried, in humility before the king.
“Of whom do you speak” aked the king in regal speeches. In him was aroused thirst to know, an hope of life. “Listen not o King” cried the most ignorant of the men who were called wise, “He speaks of the daughters of a stranger whom we spy on”
“Why spy on him?” asked the king. “We suspect him be a spy” answered another of the wise men. The wise men had wanted to have their ways with these girls, but their royal purple were stripped of reds and blues. The king in his wisdom given by the gods seeks that these daughters be presented before him and his wise men.
Soon was rumors all over the city, happiness gross waxed the heart of the maidens- for they held in their heart that the king might banish the stranger who had gathered wealth unspeakable from the soil of our fathers- even knowledge bows before authority.
“Who art thou o spies from our enemies? Have you come to make our pains burdensome or to hasten our annihilation?” The king threatened the clan of the stranger. Fear was far written from their face, not even the daughters. “For in knowledge, fear has no place” the stranger said. “You have called us based on accusations of your people”
The king asked “How have you come to such conclusions?” The stranger replied “I have walked among your people o king, and in them lie foolishness. A chicken envies the eagle, they are both bird but the eagle has a upper hand.” The king impressed by him tries enquiring more on his defense, “For I am the ruler of my people. Do you mean to say I am blind? That I am a fool, a foolish leader of fools?”
The stranger replied him “You are an unfortunate king sire, blessed by wisdom of the gods that gave you the utterance to speak to me in this manner. Fools don’t talk, they shout, fools don’t enquire as to gain knowledge, they act. Action taken by you on every matter on this land have I witnessed. I have been here for as long as Seventeen moons and have seen how your wise counsel were corrupted by your wise men. Suffer me to die if your cabinet decides that that’s what I deserve, but in humility I pray thee to give unto my family life, that that our seed shall not go into extinction”
“What made you think their life is in my hands? And what mean you by your seed moving into annihilation?” the king prompted. The stranger looked at the king saying “For I am Lanre, a descendant of the tribes of the goddess of the sea and the god of knowledge. In our clan lay the pure abilities of the gods whom other nation serve. Love is the true bond that keeps the flames of knowledge which brings forth power at bay. Our enemies discovered this and stripped us of our treasure. I and my family are the only surviving portals of our people and the gods. Now we lay low in your lands, and our live in your paws of majesty. Suffer us not into extinction that one day, we may visit our enemies with might and bring them to ruins. They are not worthy of life, they crave after knowledge and power and beauty and fame in an unholy manner.”
The king looked at him and sighed. He rose up and cried “Till the universe will be brought into damnation and all flesh shall not be, the people of Lanre become my people and shall serve as wise men in our kingdom forever. In them lies the raw knowledge and beauty of the gods who made me king over you and gave a portion of wisdom. And now, let the gods dwell fully among us”
The cabinet of the kings argued not, they’ve been unfaithful and very unlucky. They dropped their regal robes and matched out of the king’s court and palace. It is now time to either team up with the enemies or go back to the farms. I was satisfied and filled. Not because I had gotten the maidens but because I had saved my people. I trust in the wise counsel of the stranger and the beauty of the man now lies to the princes of royalty.
The city had no precept of bringing me into the jury. In them flowed a stream abundantly full of confusion of how I would betray them. “Bayo” was the name all over the town, of how he brought their enemy into heights equal with the king. And I replied them, “Are the gods not higher than the king at initials”
Many moons passed, I had undergone transformations of many sorts. Abstinence were engrafted in my art of seducing the poor maidens of my town. Now I go to work in hopes of proofing responsibility, not to people but to myself and my family. My old parents now receive from me care that I wasn’t able to show in ignorance. Tolu came to me at midnight.
“I have hardly found a man of valor like your even among my people. You are a great warrior whose statue should be erected upon the ruins of the enemies of this city when it has finally been defeated” I looked at the wise girl and my heart confused. Has she come to play tricks? How am I matched discerning her intentions?
“Look no confused further Bayo, you have a heart of gold, bringing your people before your selfish interests. Of what use was I if you and your people perish, but an iota of wisdom lied in you. I am ready to tie souls, and it is with the one who has brought me joy” I looked into her eyes, in her soul was clear and very visible. For the first time I see the woman in her and her vulnerability lie still at my presence. I said “I love you too”
I learnt something very powerful, that in love lie sacrifices. The royal palace blessed our union and I was made a prince, because I saved my town, because I was joined to the royal wise family and because the king loved me. And if the gods permit, one day, my seed shall move on to royalty as to ruling the city in power, and might, and beauty and fame.
