May I introduce to you this beautiful girl? This is Savannah, 12 years old and lives in Texas.
She loves to make cards and to give those away. Worldwide. You wonder why? She says “Thank you” with those precious cards. To who? Well…to police officers. I know, you don’t say “thank you” to a cop, or do you? Anyways, no matter what you think about this, but this campaign which this girl started, the effort she put in in making those cards and sending them worldwide to police officer, deeply impressed me.
On Facebook I stumbled on a Texan police academy site over her campaign. It was asked to support her and make it possible for her to find police stations all over the world so she could send those cards out. So I got in touch with them and told them that I would love to spread her cards in between my Bavarian co-workers. I wanted to support her campaign and I knew my co-workers would love to get a “Thank you” card. Cops need love, too, from time to time. Just sayin’
It didn’t take long that a thick envelope arrived at my police station. A letter from the States sent to a small Bavarian police station. Our secretary got googly eyes. A letter from the United States. Whaat? Coincidence… I was at the office when the secretary was sorting the mail out.
I told her about the campaign. She handed me over this magical letter. I felt like a little kid on Christmas day. I rushed to open the letter. A bunch of cards and a photo fell out. Co-workers, which saw me opening the letter, got curious and asked me, what kind of cards those were. Yep, police officer can be nosy. Cough, cough!!
Once more I started to tell them about Savannah’s great campaign. Didn’t take long and my co-workers were asking me if they could have one card. Well, like I mentioned earlier, a “Thank you” especially in written form is not often addressed to a police officer.
I told them, they could have one under one condition… they have to be on a photo…
Mumble, mumble, mutter…
But the cards were so pretty, they decided to do this thing called picture time.
Since we quite a bit work together with the American military police due to a close by base I took some cards to their station. The cards were handed out like candies, of course in exchange for a photo.
I couldn’t get it out of my head how much love and effort this kid put into those cards. So I figured just sending back a few photos wouldn’t do it. I started collecting souvenirs for her. In this collection ended up a calendar of the German Federal Criminal Police Office, photos of an event day at a close by police academy, a police teddy bear, my uniform jacket and a Lebkuchenherz (cookie) made just for Savannah.
Today I mailed the package. I really hope she will like those souvenirs, like we loved her gorgeous cards.
Savannah made over 700 cards. It all started when two police officer were slain in Brooklyn in the year 2014. Savannah wants to be a K9 handler one day.
I highly respect this girl for her endurance, motivation and most for her big heart.
