The Breaking Point

Part 1

We've all heard the story -- "I don't know what happened.., he just snapped. He was such a nice guy…" And he was a nice guy -- out in public, to all his neighbors.., he was just a normal guy living in the apartment upstairs, alone. And that term -- snapped, is somewhat misleading… Sure, "something" can happen that pushes you over the edge.., but to get to that point it takes years of suffering, misery, loneliness, loss -- you get the picture, it doesn't just happen overnight.

He was -- The Golden Boy… Bound for glory, everyday of his life. Leading man looks, a natural gift for athletics, lucky with the ladies and an over all cool guy. Never once did he think all the gifts he possessed made him any better than anyone else… There was no doubt, he was bound for great things -- a future to look forward too.

After his second year in a very "prestigious" college -- he was bored out of his mind! So he dropped out.., blew everyones mind. It was the last thing anyone would expect from Mr. Perfect… But he knew early on, life was about experiencing it.., and this Frat Boy bullshit was definitely not for him…

Fortunately, money wasn't a problem… Besides all those gifts he possessed, he was also a born entrepreneur -- he had money coming in from a few different online endeavors and had become quite skilled at trading digital currencies (whatever the hell that is).., even better he could do all of these from anywhere in the world, as long as he had an internet connection -- plus, he always wanted to just write.., and he could do that from anywhere, too!

So he left.., ditched it all -- the future lawyer, doctor, Senator.., anything really, if he would have just stayed the course… But once he got his first taste of "sort of" freedom in college -- he wanted more… With little more than a backpack he would travel the world -- from pushing 140 mph on the autobahn riding a jacked-up Ducati, to hiking the Himalayas with some old enlightened yogi guy… But his favorite place, the place that just rocked his world, was sailing the mediterranean -- being out in the middle of the sea, surrounded by nothing but beauty…

He had won a sail boat in a poker game one night in Naxos, Greece… The guy he won it from was some super wealthy type.., and really seemed to enjoy giving him this really nice, very classic sail boat -- he couldn't believe he got bluffed out of the last hand, but also said he could dock the boat right where it was whenever he wanted and it would be taken care of…

He loved the attitude of all the people that were entering his life… Even though, this super wealthy guy just lost a pretty nice sail boat in card game -- he was totally cool with it. Even though he had crazy money, he didn't seem greedy… He wanted and did, share his wealth with people -- good people. He certainly never remembered such a good loser, back where he was from… And he liked it!

The first night on the boat, one of the local stray dogs followed him all the way onto the boat -- Lefty, a good looking white dog with a few big black spots. When he looked at you, he would always tilt his head to the left, so the towns people named him Lefty. So he put a huge bowl of water and local beef dish down for him (it was quite an intimidating amount of food but Lefty devoured it) and they both enjoyed a good meal watching the sunset on the sea…

The next few days stocking up the boat for his first trip, Lefty never left his side… It had become obvious he now had a dog.., and all the locals were so happy -- they love their stray dogs and take care of them very well, but are so happy when one finds a real home. Three days after winning the boat, he set sail for Croatia, Split to be more exact.., with Lefty by his side, with that cute little face staring right at him -- tilting to the Left of course…

It was INSANE!

It was during that trip, just him and a local greek stray dog, sailing the seas like two seasoned pros -- he would fall in love.., in love with a new way of life. Each moment he experienced more beautiful than the next… Sitting on the bow watching the sunset, sinking into the sea, while sipping on some wine and pulling on a nice handmade hash pipe that was gifted to him by a local bartender back on Naxos, with something to fill it -- and his new dog.., was amazing. Doing a morning meditation as the sun rose out of the same sea it had disappeared in -- incredible!

The decision was made…

He would chill in Split for a bit (the place was like a fairytale), sail back down to Greece, dock the boat, fly back to America to tie up any loose ends -- and get back to his boat (and dog) as soon as humanly possible… He couldn't imagine living any other way -- the first morning he wrote on the boat, endless blue sea as far as the eye could see and massive carved out cliffs towering above him, he wrote for eight hours straight… Before that morning, he had never written a poem, but by the end of it he and written three -- he could feel his creativity.., his mind, expanding. There was no doubt he would be back.., but little did he know what life had in store…

STAY TUNED FOR PART 2…
Does our "Golden Boy" ever make it back to his boat in Greece, to live his dream and sail the seas… Or, as so often happens.., does life have it's own plan for him...

This is great, waiting for the next part!

Thanks man!

Argh! Cliffhanger!

The first paragraph had me thinking he was going to murder someone ._. I'm glad it was a different snap. And Lefty sounds such a cutie pie. You're not going to spring up a krakken, are you?

Hahaha... I don't know about a krakken.., but there could be something supernatural (hint, hint..). CHEERS!

Ooohhhh. Way to make me feel impatient! Until the next one then :D

Well written. You make sailing sound so soul-stirring. I think, whatever the life throws at the golden boy, he has the wind beneath his sails to steer him right.
