I met up with a friend of mine and we decided to go fishing. Having left all of my gear in South Carolina temporarily, my buddy said we could use his gear. The first thing we found was his 21 year old Snoopy kidcaster from when he was 5.
This was too much to pass up so I said "let's just use that"
He laughingly agreed and we were on our way.
We got to the lake a short time later.
Evergreen Lake is a man made lake made by damming off Bear Creek. It is beautiful year round and there are some monster Tiger Muskee living in it, as well as Rainbow trout, catfish, bass, and various species of pan fish.
We let my girls fish first for a while. It was a challenge for them to get used to a kidcaster. They have pushbutton reels so it wasn't a huge adjustment and they were having a blast. They couldn't really cast out very far with the ancient Snoopy rod, so my friend and I were helping.
My friend casted the line out once and immediately got a fish on! It was this beautiful little rainbow trout.
We put the gorgeous little fella back so it could grow up a little. It started pouring rain not long after that, so it cut short our fun. We all learned something very valuable from this frolic, something that I say all the time. KEEP CASTING you never give up and you use the gear you have available . And HELP SOMEONE in this case I helped my friend rediscover a part of his youth and gave him a new memory as well.
Fishing to me has always been about far more than the fish. We build our families and our friendships on these activities. It is a wholesome and beautiful way to connect with people. And it could feed you.
So get out there and fish. It doesn't matter what gear you have, it doesn't matter if it might rain. All that matters is that you get out of the house and make a connection. Whether if it is just a communing with nature or you meet someone new who may write an entire story in your book of life, fishing is a most wonderful way to spend some time.
Superb view @matthewtiii and congratz on that rainbow trout you caught!
PS: Sh I know it was your friend who caught it but we will keep it a secret just between me and you...))

Looks like a beautiful area. I am looking forward to when my boys are old enough to go to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area with me. Those will be some good memories.
