My friends and I was tasked to accompany kids to their home after our fun but exhausting dance practice. It is not often that these kids can go out to enjoy and mingle with people their-age, so you can just imagine the roaring of laughter and never ending stories.
While we're walking, Zee, one of the girls went beside me and tugged my shirt to have my attention. As I turn to ask her why, she took my hand and said "Aren't we going to eat?" I was a bit taken aback but the kid has a point. How thoughtless of us not to feed them after that tiring practice. So I asked everyone if they want to eat in KFC and in a beat their eyes widen and cheered "YES,"—so off we go!
While everyone was chatting joyously, my attention was focused on Zee. She was not on her usual naughty, hard-headed self. She was very cooperative, extra nice to her sibling and other kids, and she was actually sharing her french-fries! It’s something we've never seen her done before. Aside from that, she seems to be genuinely happy. As I was having this thoughts and observations she slowly looked to one of my friend sitting beside her. When my friend asked her why, I heard her saying "This is the first time I go out and eat with them (referring to the other kids), Thank you." Teary-eyed, my friend asked her, "Are you happy?" to which she answered, "Very!" I can see how touched my friend was by the simple answer Zee gave him—my heart was touched too. "We'll be doing this more often!" my friend blurted. "All of us?Together?" Zee asked him. My friend looked at me smiling from ear to ear—as if for the first time we’ve done something right—“Yes, all of us. TOGETHER,” we answered.
Our child needs us more than anything.
More than clothes, colors, and toys they need hands to hold, warm hugs, kiss on the forehead, and the security of togetherness.
