Yet another story sparked by a conversation earlier today.
Seems I have always had a nickname.
Dad called me Runt. For years. And for years I thought it really special. Later when I looked up the definition of runt to find it meant the smallest, often sickliest of the litter. Ok, I was small and sickly. But of litter? Hmmmmm. But I still love it. Later I was either Lightnin' or Rasputin. Don't know why or how he decided when I was which one.
Also at a young age a family friend nicknamed me Little Bit. Now you know how our dog got her name.
Mom called me Nita Lou. Short for my first and middle names. My sister called me many, many things. I do believe she was the first to call me bitch.
My maiden name being Foster, we were the Foster kids in all our friends households.
In my teens my sisters friends nicknamed me Woodstock. This time I won't say why. This stuck with me forever. In fact, when my sister bought me my high school jacket for Christmas, she had the name embroidered as Woodstock. I thought it was 'so cool'. Still have that jacket.
Moved from Ohio to Texas and I was 'Miss Ohio'
After going back to Ohio then landing in Oklahoma, I was a Yankee.
From Oklahoma to Wisconsin it was back to southerner.
My first nephew came up with Nini. So I am Aunt Nini
Two weeks into my job here in WI I distinctly remember the girl training me called me bitch. I let that go. She was dumb. And by that time she was not just the second person to call me that.
Later my first email address was "badnananini". Even our own daughter felt I wasn't a great role model for her kids. She tends to dislike my redneck, blunt, honest, sarcastic, sometimes prejudiced and opinionated self. Managed to live that down. We've come to terms.
My last job I was Miss Anita.
Good friends typically end up just calling me Nita.
I wouldn't ususally encourage name calling but these all are harmless. Each making me feel loved or liked or special. Or all three!
I still know my real name. Lol
Just for fun.....my newest title @nananini
well it's nice to hear a relatable story here! and a nice one too :^D
