Just Simple Little Cruelties : The Virtues of Damnation (1)

in story •  7 years ago

Cold hides in my flesh,
As I pause, trying to keep a faint wish fresh;
White is what I see,
Stretching for miles around me.
I make my way in the howling wind,
While it tugs at me like some unseen fiend
In a thousand gentle touches that try to bind,
And I hear them answer it in kind.
I do not worry,
Only feeling sorry
For you whom I leave behind,
Out there where none would find.
Listening to my breath, I wonder
If someone ever sends an answer,
To the prayers we sent,
But, as they close in on my scent,
My thoughts scatter like the drifting snow,
And, when they come for me in the moon's glow,
Only one is left to rule my mind's hollow space,
As frozen tears streak down my face,
And my body shakes with a silent laugh:
'Will hell be warm enough?'JSLC.jpg
