FROM MEDIOCRE (NOTHING) TO SOCIAL MEDIA INFLUENCING

Prison is a place where the criminal justice system has laid its entire hopes. The correctional mechanism, if fails will make the whole criminal procedure a pyrrhic victory. The doctrine behind punishment for a crime has been changed a lot by the evolution of new human rights jurisprudence. “Krishna Iyer, J opined prison as:”
‘’A reformative philosophy, rehabilitative strategy, therapeutic prison treatment and enlivening of prisoner’s personality through a technology of fostering the fullness of being such a creative art of social defense and correctional process activating fundamental guarantees of prisoner’s rights is the hopeful note of national prison policy struck by the constitution and the court’’.
The purpose of punishment is to reform the offender as a person to enable him become a normal law-abiding member of the community again. The main emphasis is placed not on the crime itself, the harm caused or the deterrence effect which punishment may have, but also on the individual and the personality of the offender.
Wallace Peeples, popularly known as Wallo267 is a growing social media sensation who was able to turnaround the negativities life handed to him as he was considered by many a nuisance due to his criminal record at a young age of 10. He went viral on Instagram for his positive posts after his release from prison.

Wallo, as a convict at the age of 17, has had to serve about 20 years jail term. He has been charged with several offences which led to his jail term including; possession of contraband and weapons or implements of escape. Peeples was in possession of three cell phones, five chargers, five headsets, an iPod and a wireless hot spot while in prison.
Suprisingly, he had been using them to build up his Instagram profile! And that was how with a positive attitude, he earned the keys to success right after his release. Less than 150 days into his release from jail, he had amassed over 60,000 Instagram followers which has steadily rose over time. He currently has a verified Instagram account with over 115,000 followers.
As a motivational speaker, life coach and entrepreneur, he preaches belief in oneself and determination to succeed which will always outweigh the negativity that life brings. He now owns a Clothing line which has been very successful with its trending Philadelphian tag lines including; “It’s Always Money In Philadelphia.”

The 39-year old from Philadelphia is a model of redemption and signifies the importance of the reformative prison system. The Reformative theory of punishment was developed by psychologists, sociologists and physiologists in order to create a system where the convicts could be reformed and released back into the society as citizens. As a form of rehabilitation, it seeks to bring about fundamental changes in offenders and their behaviour. The object of punishment should be to bring about the moral reform of the offender.

During Pepple’s jail term, he also learnt to read, attended culinary school and also made his G.D.E. Pepple is loved and regarded by many as a source of inspiration due to his outlook about life.
