                                                     The First Time I Ate "Green Corn"

The first time I visited Brazil I stayed at a friend's home located in the Northern East State of Brazil called Ceará. There, it's very common people eat corn even on the streets. As you would eat a hot dog. 

Well, it was lunch time and they said one of the dishes was the very famous green corn. I was amazed. I had never seen or heard such thing. I knew Brazilians experimented a lot with genetics, so I thought they had refined a technique to do this. 

I was so excited to eat such strange and exotic food. The host served the food and brought to the table a bowl full of ... yellow corn. I thought it was some kind of mistake. I asked my friend where the green corn was. 

- Right on the table. Don't you see it?

- But it's not green. It's yellow. - I replied.

He began to laugh. In Brazil people just call it "green corn" because of the color of the leaves. 

I had never been so disappointed. Needless to say, they laughed for five minutes.

The "green corn" was delicious, anyway.
