True Mafia/Government Stories Friday- Well, With a Last Name Like Mine What Would you expect!

                                

Today I will tell you two stories that are true Mafia and Government related.  Some of you might have heard whispers of them, while to others these stories will come as a shock.  

The First is the scene in the Godfather where the character of Johnny Fontane goes to his Godfather Vito Corleone to try to get a part in a movie to revive his career.  The Fontane character was based on Frank Sinatra, a bar room singer out of Hoboken New Jersey.  Frank Sinatra’s career was revived by his role in the war film 'From Here to Eternity'. It wasn't uncommon back then for the mafia to have a piece of Hollywood.

Meeting with the producer to get Johnny Fontane aka Frank Sinatra the part in the movie.  But it didn't go so well and it ended with the director screaming in horror when he discovers the cut head of his prized $600,000 horse in the bed with him the following morning. The Vito Corleone role was based on real-life Godfathers Frank Costello and Lucky Luciano.

Other actors who paid a monthly percentage to the Mob were Dean Martin, Clint Eastwood, Marilyn Monroe, Tony Bennet, Jerry Lewis and many more. Offers were made to the Hollywood Directors "that couldn't be refused" ;)

The second story is a little more recent Government/Mafia

It's not a secret that most big construction contracts wereand still are given to the major mafia crime families in NYC. The Twin Towers were contracted to the mafia and the mob would sub-contract and overcharge smaller companies to build or tax the concrete, windows etc.  The mob had the contracts and controlled the Labor Unions too. ( Think Jimmy Hoffa) 

                      

At the time the World Trade Center was hit, 166 Billion in Gold bars went missing, the gold bars were stored deep down below the WTC in vaults constructed by the mob when the towers were built.  Before the towers were hit when other countries would want to come over and see their gold, what the higher ups would do was load up a few pallets of gold and drive them through underneath tunnels from 4 World Trade Center to Chase Manhattan bank (5 World Trade Center).  After the countries and other banks were satisfied that the gold was there and safe they would drive it back to the vaults.  It was a shell game that went on for many many years! Until it was stolen by let's say ______ I'll let you fill in the gap to this story! 

Remember this Commercial?  Selling coins made with gold and silver recovered from beneath WTC? WTF! C'mon 

I remember when this commercial came out, they realized they messed up and the Governor of NYC and others went on a fake witch hunt against this company. Yet year after year this and other similiar coins pop around Sept. 11th. What a shame.
