Mayon Volcano is an active volcano located at province of Albay, Luzon Area in the Philippines. It is well-known for it's a perfect cone-shaped.

The Legend of Mayon Volcano
(Love story of Magayon & Panganoron)

Long ago, there was a beautiful maiden called Daragang Magayon (beautiful one). There are so many young man courting her because she is so beautiful and flawless.

According to his father Rajah Makusog (strong one) she is already at the right age to marry so he's allow her to marry just in case she wants to. But Magayon can't choose from her suitors. She will only marry the one she loves.

One day, Magayon was taking a bath in the river when suddenly she slipped and fell into the deep part of it. She doesn't even know how to swim. Luckily, Panganoron saw her and saved her.

Panganoron was a brave son of Rajah Karilaya. That day he is going on a hunting, so he heard Magayon's crying for help. When he saw Magayon was almost drowning, he bravely jump into the river to save the maiden.

He was mesmerize by the beauty of Magayon so he decided to court her. She also fell inlove with the brave man who saved her. Later on, their wedding was announced to the whole tribe.

But Pagtuga(eruptive one), one of Magayon's persistent suitor, planned something to stop the wedding. He kidnapped her father Rajah Makusog, and he will not free him until Magayon agreed to marry him. Because she loved her father she have no choice but to agree with Pagtuga.

Magayon went to Pagtuga's place to give herself in exchange of his father's freedom. Panganoron heard about it, so he & his men tried to saved Magayon and his father from Pagtuga.

A big battle happened between two tribes. Panganoron won over Pagtuga and he killed him. When Magayon saw Panganoron's victory she urgently run towards him. But before they become closer a poisoned arrow shot from nowhere, fell on Daragang Magayon’s back. Panganoron rushed towards to aid her but one of the Pagtuga's men struck him at the back. Rajah Makusog saw everything. He followed that man who killed Panganoron and killed him too.

When the battle is over, Rajah brought Magayon and Panganoron's body. They dig for their grave and buried the lovers together.

After how many days the notice that the grave starts to rise. It become bigger and the land become a coned-shaped. They called it Mayon from their beautiful princess Magayon.

They said that even in death, Magayon is still haunted by the two men who loved her. When Mayon is said to erupt, this is Patuga challenging Panganoron. But when Mayon is calm, Panganoron is embracing her. The tears of Panganoron are shed as rain at times in his grief.

I shared this because as Mayon's erupts it reminds me of the Love Story of Magayon and Panganoron, i learned it from my grandma.
The latest eruption of Mayon Volcano happened this January 2018. I'm hoping that the people who are affected and living near the area are all safe & their animals too.
