Hi STEEMIT!
Today, let’s take a break and learn about coffee, one of Uganda’s main exports!
These days, coffee drinking has become such a huge culture that it’s hard to not see a coffee shop within a block. The number of coffee drinkers have been steadily increasing globally. The market leader, Starbucks recently announced that they have approximately 27,000 stores worldwide. Have you thought about where the coffee beans are from?
Coffee beans from South America and Africa have been gaining popularity. Does Ugandan coffee ring a bell? Although the export amount is not as much as that of Ethiopia, Uganda is the 8th largest coffee exporter in the world! Out of the 42 million population, approximately 3 million are working in the industry, which shows how big it is in Uganda.

In Uganda, the same variety of Arabica beans that are grown in Ethiopia and Kenya are grown. Comparatively, the ones grown in Uganda are a bit larger, more uniform in taste, and bitter, so they are used for coffee variations. The demand for Ugandan coffee beans has been increasing and they are expanding the variety of beans they grow.
Have you tried Ugandan coffee? What did you think?
