3D printing a helping hand

in story •  7 years ago

In my introductory post, I wrote that I have a 3D printing business here in Guatemala, the company name is Imprende (you can look for us on fb and ig). A couple of weeks ago we printed a prosthetic arm to a man called Tanislao, he is widely known around our city mainly because of his injuries and because everyone has seen him asking for money in one of the busiest streets in the city. The story quickly became viral here in my country and I thought I would also share it here with all of you Steemers.

Tanislao is a 64 year old man from a small town called San Marcos, he is the survivor of a fire that left him with deep scaring, partial loss of his sight and the loss of both of his arms but in spite of this, he is a joyfull and strong person. From the first day we met him he showed a lot of energy and enthusiasm with a positive outlook on life.

With the support of an anonimous donor, we 3D printed a full prosthetic for his left arm which, once on, he quickly became determined to learn how to use it and grab a water bottle (I haven´t figured out how to upload videos, if anyone can guide me on how to do it I´ll update the post with a video of Tanislao using the prothesis), once we was able to accomplish this task which we all take for granted, he was overjoyed and with a voice full of emotion said he would finally be able to hold his wife Ofelia.

I thought I´d share this story with you, it was one of the most meaningful experiences of my life, seeing Tanisalo´s happiness, his strong personality and his positive outlook on life.
