So, I didn't really have an amazing day yesterday.. But I'm glad that I'm in one piece and able to make this post..
How many times has it happened that you fall into a small issue and then you make a call and agree to pay a person to get you out of it but instead the person comes and puts you deeper into the issue.. Well, that's what happened to me yesterday..
Since the ATM near my place has been shut since 3 days, I wasn't able to withdraw cash.. So when I visited an area in Mangalore for some work, google maps suggested me two nearby ATM.. When I went to the first location, it turned out to be a grocery shop who informed me that there is no single ATM in the entire area.. I was shocked and decided to head back home.. But then the second location was just 8 minutes away so felt why not go and check it out..
Turned out to be one of the biggest mistakes of my life.. Google maps took me into an unknown route and I literally ended up at a dead end.. The scene was so bad that I had a 2 feet drain on the right side and almost a 15 feet ditch on the left.. I immediately regretted my decision of trusting the maps.. Now since it was a slope, I had to get the car back in reverse and avoid the side ditch.. It was a 1km mud road so I had to be very careful..
But then on my side mirror I could see a kind soul guiding me to take a proper reverse and I was so happy to see that happen.. Since it was almost 7pm and it was quite dark, this guy's guidance came as a blessing to me.. Well, that's what I thought.. All of a sudden I realised that my back wheel was sliding downwards and I immediately applied my brakes and saw the guy running away.. I understood something was fishy and the second I opened my door I saw my car was at the edge of the 2 feet ditch.. I literally had to jump into the ditch to get out of my car..
On getting out, I realised that the back tyre was completely into the ditch and front tyre was just balancing there.. Realised it will take few hands or a recovery to get it out.. So I immediately picked my phone and called up a friend to come to help me out and then called @firepower.. @firepower put me across to another guy who helped me in getting a recovery car.. Now starts all the fun..
The recovery guy who turned up to help me, got himself stuck in the mud road and then it took us an hour and a lot of stones to help him get his truck out.. We finally managed to do that and I immediately had the feeling that I'm going to regret calling this person.. But I trusted his experience and agreed to letting him move my car out of the ditch.. I explained him to carry the car a little bit from the back and that I would place a stone for the front tyre so that it could get a grip.. But before I could do any of it, the guy just carried the car from the back in a haste and in matters of seconds my car was officially sleeping on the right hand side of the ditch.. Yes, it slipped and fell into the ditch.. So, what was a small issue was now a major crisis..
It was raining heavily and I didnt know how to react.. I just kept my calm and asked the guy to call a crane operator to carry the car out.. Meanwhile, a good samaritan from the neighbourhood came to check on what was happening.. He initially was very rude but upon learning what had happened he offered to help and called few of his neighbours.. Luckily one person was a JCB operator.. And he suggested carrying the car out using the JCB.. In no time there were about 10 people around me who turned up to help and the JCB was called..
Well, it took a lot of heads and hands but then finally my boy was carried out of the ditch and we all laughed off the situation and were grateful that the car didn't fall on the left side ditch.. Turns out the guy who gave me wrong guidance was a drunkard..
Well, all is well that finally ends well.. The car didn't suffer any visible damage except for the top portion where the belt was tied so that the JCB could carry it.. Here are some pictures I managed to capture during the entire scenario.. Also do let me know if any of you guys went through a similar situation, where the help you called for screwed up your issue even more..
@varunpinto, that's a deep ditch you got stuck in !
