"Hi, I'm calling about those puppies you rescued. I saw them on your Facebook page and I think I want one. What breed are they?"

Andrea gritted her teeth and counted to ten while reminding herself not to throw the phone.

"Hello? Can you hear me? Helllloooooooo? Are they -"

The random word this story was based on was "breed" and it took me in this direction because of something I once overheard an animal rescuer say. She was fed up that people kept asking about specific breeds of dogs for adoption. To her they were all unique personalities full of potential and looking for someone to love and be loved by in return. I think it hurt that her charges were being reduced to mutts (undesirables) and purebreeds (desirables) by people who'd never met them. Something to ponder I guess.
