Being from Indiana and this show taking place during my very early childhood, it had a nostalgic feel. I liked the story, but feel it had a rushed ending.
...I have to say, the filmmakers could have looked at their historical chronology a little better. In the first episode, a character eludes to the band "The Smiths" and compares them with the Clash and Joy Division. In 1983, no one really knew who the Smiths were - let alone compare them to the Clash or Joy Division.
Of course, you're right. The same could be said about The Evil Dead and The Thing posters.
