I always find it a little sad when beautiful old buildings are left in disrepair and are unloved. This beautiful Victorian crescent in Scarborough is one such example.
Built around 1860, Belvoir Terrace was home to local merchants, owners of the local fishing fleet and town councillors, probably due to it's close proximity to the town hall.
The Victorians borrowed from, in this case badly, the stunning architecture of the Georgian period. There are a number of fine examples of such Georgian crescents like the one on Bath, and a number in London and York. This is the only one I know of from the Victorian period though of course there may be many tucked away that don't get the publicity.
These shots were taken on a beautiful day in May. It's strange that this terrace is so badly in need of some TLC when the rest of the street is kept to a very high standard.
