insane art along most walkways

Colourful street art is everywhere in Medellin, Colombia. It brightens all the neighbourhoods in this large city and there are incredible works of art that tells stories of their violent past and their hope towards continuing peace. However, moments of violence do flare up from time to time. There are free tours that head up to Comuna 13, which talks about the past violence and hopes for peace the locals have - 3 weeks prior to the day I went there was a total ban of tours and all non-locals to stay away. As the story went, a local gang boss was arrested and there was a bit of unrest between two rival gangs for a few days. From what I understand 6 people were killed in one day but the police arrested all members involved and peace ensued. This allowed the free Comuna 13 tours to continue and visitors the opportunity to explore this beautiful part of Medellin, which helps support the locals and their businesses.
