Stress Wall

Breaking though the invisible barrier

My mind is an amazing piece of machinery. It can solve complex problems, recall memories from 20 years ago and play a song on the guitar just by hearing it.

It can also be a prison.

Through dealing with cycles of depression, stress and then depression again I can honestly say that my mind can be a terrible villain at times. It has prevented me from capitalizing on fantastic opportunities, forging relationships with people and bettering my overall situation. I've come to fully understand the concept of "getting in my own way." After experiencing this weird self-induced phenomenon countless times over the past couple of years I've given it a name.

The Stress Wall

Welcome to the most frustrating thought pattern. Imagine this, you know what you need to do to resolve a problem in your life but can't seem to get it done. Let's say that you are going through a divorce, but your car needs repair. You've reached the end of your mental rope and continue to push the car repair off. "I'll do it tomorrow", you say. Ultimately you push it back so far that the car breaks down and you get stranded. You beat yourself up about it. You knew the car was going to have issues and yet you didn't do anything about it.

The cycle repeats itself. You almost feel like you are walking the halls of some god forsaken prison. You're the only one there, and the walls keeping you in are constructed by your own mind.

The key to dealing with stress is to find ways to alleviate it before it becomes a problem. Making sure you're eating healthy is a good start. Talking to others and sharing your problems will help you vent some of your frustration You could also take a break from work or go on a vacation.

Stress can take a toll on your body, and it's important to recognize that it's an invisible barrier that stands between you and living a productive and happy life. Make sure you identify it early and take steps to deal with it before it becomes a chronic problem.
