Congress recently approved of a multi-billion dollar farm bill that includes a path for legalization of hemp on a federal level in the United States.
The new legislation provides at least $400 billion in farm subsidies and food aid etc, it also seeks to expand federal crop insurance and broaden the definition of family, to include more individuals who might quality for payments under this state-funded program.
A great deal of media attention has been focused around the new prospect for legalization of hemp and the bill passed with few opposed, 369 to 47. There was little push-back from political figures who you'd generally assume would be opposed to state handouts or government intervention in the market.
The new bill makes changes that would remove restrictions surrounding crop insurance for hemp around the country and it opens up opportunity for farmers who grow hemp to do banking, and more.
Most of the money being given out via farming subsidies isn't being funneled to small family farms and individual farmers as some might assume.
The farming subsidies might also be making Americans fatter and unhealthier, according to some researchers, as the focus of subsidies for farmers has been on those who are growing crops such as rice, wheat, corn, and soybeans.
Large corporate farms are likely to be the most affected from a drastic reform in farm subsidies, the top 10 farm subsidy recipients receive more than $1 million on a yearly basis.
This new legislation, which is being widely celebrate for the proposed federal hemp changes, is at the end of the day just a bloated corporate welfare bill by another name, it should be eliminated altogether as we don't need the government to subsidize agriculture.

I got half way through the post pretty happy about the changes only to be let down in the end by the notion that the rich will again get richer. Is it possible the little folks who have been preparing for this will get some of the bounty before the big farms can change to scoop it up? Maybe more agile and get a little lead on the big guys as far as experience goes? Convert a head start into a solid business on a smaller scale?
Would be nice for someone looking to make a difference and use some lobbying expertise to jump in and help get this into the hands of some of the smaller businesses.

I am always skeptical of the talking heads touting their "new bills".
All shit I say. Forced upon an unwanting populace.
