Some pictures from the succulent show

in succulents •  5 years ago  (edited)

The Johannesburg Succulent Society had its spring show about 10 days ago. It was very quiet, probably because the dates they chose coincided with the rugby world cup semi-finals although it couldn't have been predicted whether the national team would have made it that far. Sports-mad nations.... But, on to more interesting things in my book

lopophora williamsii.jpg
Lopophora williamsii, aka Peyote, in flower

ariocarpus retusus.jpg
Another very slow-growing and collectable cactus, Ariocarpus retusus

I don't know what this is but the flowers were great

More spring flowers, Adenium arabicum

Another caudex plant, Pachypodium horombense

Pelargonium tetragonum which looks a bit like Euphorbia, until it flowers

As usual, there was a beautiful selection of plants on show, these picture are just a few of the many that caught my eye. I showed what I brought home here

So lovely! excellent shots!!

Thank you!

Wow! Strange looking plants which I have never seen before!! They look like they are from another world!

Only this same one

So they are pretending to be different!

What a variety of strange looking succulent. I don't think I have seen any of them before. The Crassula mesembryanthenopsis looks like pepples.

These are the rarer and more difficult to grow succulents that not many people keep

I see. 👍 😊

Beautiful .. flowers on succulents knock my socks off...

Excelentes imágenes amiga. Ninguno de ellos los conozco. Que flores tan hermosas. Gracias por compartir esta información. Un abrazo.

Thank you, I'm glad you like them. Except for the cacti, these are all the rarer and more unusual plants from my country

Acá se consigue la que tienes de cuarta foto, con el nombre de, Flor del desierto. Las hay en muchos colores, blancas, rojas, rosadas, matizadas.

Yes, those are sold world-wide

Lovely shots of the succulents. The 2nd from last one looks like a brain. 😊

Now that you mention it...

Very cool!
That first one is very special 😍

Wow they are all blooming is it spring over there?

Posted using Partiko Android

Yes it is, but many of our native succulents bloom in autumn and winter

Next january is just around the bend, hopefully my orchids will start blooming again.

Orchids can be tricky. I have read that they need to be exposed to natural light as much as possible, it's the lengthening and shortening of days that triggers flowering. Once I moved them out of a room where the light was on for long periods at night, some got flowering although others are still defying me

My rare orchids are good at defying me. The simpler common ones are already sending up stalks.
