Sugar is the root of all disease?steemCreated with Sketch.

I used to think eating fat would make you fat. They teach this in nutrition classes nursing school.

Wrong! Eating a sugar / high carb diet will make you fat. Fat is actually essential and provides satiety/brakes for overeating. That Sugar Film by Damon Gameau was an eye opening experience. And frightening.

I also researched more about how to maintain a healthy lifestyle and avoid central obesity, (cardiovascular disease, Type 2 diabetes, and fat around major organs like the liver, pancreas, and kidneys are likely if you carry fat here) and found Dr. Michael Van’s lecture on ketosis and intermittent fasting informative.

When I quit sugar and started tracking my intake using a food diary app, I was shocked at the pain my body was in - it was deep muscle pain, mid to lower back pain, it was insane restless leg syndrome and the worst feeling of every inch of your skin is crawling. It was so bad I had to take an ibuprofen for 2 days for the pain relief.

Because I was also fasting daily for 16-18 hours, I sped up ketosis and lost a stubborn 30 lbs of fat that I couldn’t manage with exercise after having 2 kids.
