sunday afternoon dremel // plastic on plastic action with a 3d printed gopro cage adapter!

Forgive the manic looking picture but when I pick up the dremel anything can happen, it’s been a damn useful tool over the years to do mini little jobs like this, I’ve been wanting to add a little tripod adapter into the gopro frame have. I sold my gopro 3 a few years back but I’m in the market for another gopro, session 5 or the gopro 6 and the little cage really makes the different for getting a nice shot.

The one thing that’s always been missing from the gopro cage is the add-on for an extra battery or a light and now that I have this adapter I’m able to put one of those on, if this works out I’ll probably go with a little cube light and then consider putting on a balanced power unit along the bottom to keep a gopro powered up charging between shoots.

I wasn’t sure how well the material would take to me cutting away at it with a a knife or power through it with a dremel but I used the sanding/buffing tool and it cut through it like butter, a bit too good actually, 3d material is odd in that it’s built up in layers, it started to break down like a grid, it was a little bit like interstellar for a moment in there but the deep cuts meant that the sanding bit dug out what I needed, I just took my time with it.

As soon as i had a flush cut and it’s dug out I snapped in the adapter and then filled it with hot glue and glued in over the top part, it seems super solid, I guess I’ve gotta be careful with the weight I put on it but I think for a light it’s gonna be fine, especially as I’m gonna go with some little cube lights which last at max twenty minutes, that’s why I wanna put the power on there as well so I can charge them after each use.

Pretty pumped about it, gonna see if I can find a cool lanyard strap for this as well so I can wear it under a coat easily so I can have quick access to it when I wanna make a cinemagraph, quick vlog or some time lapses, a small job for a chilled sunday afternoon! :)

Hope your having a good one!
