Regarded as one of the best opening batsmen in cricket during his heydays, Sunil Gavaskar is a former Indian cricketer best known for the several records he put over the length of his acting career.

Gavaskar made his entry into the world of global cricket with a huge bang--by scoring 774 runs in his debut test series against the West Indies. Instantly recognized as a national hero, the young lad was yet to comprehend the enormity of the expectations the Indian crickets lovers had from his upcoming career.

He didn't disappoint his supporters. He rewrote the background of crickets by setting up numerous records, many of which took decades to be surpassed, and many of that are yet to be broken. Diminutive, standing at a height of 5' 5", that he was called"The Little Master".

Gavaskar enjoyed playing cricket from a young age and has been his school's star batsman, frequently scoring runs in tons! His high school playing career gave way to first-class cricket which in turn led to his selection from the national team. He became a commentator following his spectacular career as a cricketer.

Childhood & Early Life

Sunil was born in a middle-class family to Manohar Gavaskar and Meenal. He loved cricket by a young age and it wasn't any surprise. His dad was a fantastic club player and his maternal uncle, Madhav Mantri had been a former Indian Test wicketkeeper.

He traveled to St. Xavier's school as it had been well known for its cricketing customs. He played a lot of cricket throughout his college years and was appointed India's Best Schoolboy Cricketer of the year in 1966. He left his first-class debut in 1966-67 playing for Vazir Sultan Colts XI.
