The defensive holding penalty that sealed the game for the Chiefs was objectively bullshit.

As y'all know, I'm a Bills fan. Still, I was born in Philly, and most of my family are Eagles fans; so, I'm not perfectly objective.

That said, that defensive holding penalty that sealed the game for the Chiefs was objectively bullshit.

First off, that claimed "tug" on the jersey happens on every play, just like offensive holding -- by the direct letter of the law, happens on every play. If the Chiefs had run the ball to the left and scored a touchdown on that play, and the refs flagged the right tackle for a hold because his hand briefly moved to a rusher's outside shoulder for a split second, I would call bullshit on that, too. It happens on every play. It usually doesn't affect the outcome. That's been a principle in officiating for as long as I've been watching football.

Also, it's simply true that the alleged hold didn't impede the ability of the receiver to run his route. A defender is allowed to make contact with an eligible receiver. The fact that the receiver made a cut doesn't negate that.

ASLO, the tug on the jersey of the receiver was so minor, and so clearly minor, that it could just have easily been (what I believe it was) a minor curl of the fingers that again didn't impede the receiver.

Now, whether or not it was a catchable ball has also been an issue for as long as I've been alive. A defender could outright tackle a receiver in the process of defending a pass; but, if it's done in mid-air, and the ball was twenty feet over the receiver's head, you don't call it because the receiver couldn't get the fucking ball in the first place. I know that y'all think that Mahomes is the new GOAT, and he probably is; but, he still flat out misses throws from time to time, because he's still a human being.

Mahomes missed the throw, and the ref's call won the Chiefs the game.

Everybody should be pissed about that call.

Even Chiefs fans should have a tone of, "I'm glad we won. I'll take it. But, it's bullshit. I wish we hadn't won that way."
