The electrical holy grail takes a step closer to reality; with superconductors at much higher temperatures than have worked before. No longer do we need liquid Nitrogen, But one of these compounds super-conducts at 7 degrees C (44 degrees F); which can be reached in a home refrigerator!
This is HUGE, and is the first time they have had a possible power line material. We are not there yet, BUT, this is a generational jump over the previous high temp material that was -70 C. Study of WHY this is happening, will widen our understanding of the superconductor material, and how it works. This usually results in more new material, at higher temperatures.
A No Loss transmission line is a game changer, that reduces the gear needed to carry power cross country; those two combined, will reduce electric costs overall.

Yes, he was pretty sharp! The stuff Marconi was credited with in radio transmission was, in fact, copied from Tesla. He was years ahead of Marconi.
Today, they worry about thousandths of a watt from our cell phones, and Tesla was running a hundred millions times more power, and suffered no ill effects!
There are a lot of shady people trying to sell fecal matter they claimed was designed by Tesla, for home power generation. Even now, the name carries a lot of weight, and they sell a lot of bogus stuff.

You could send power that way, but it is very inefficient. We would be living in a microwave oven if we ran that kind of transmitted power these days. That high a power level transmitted through the air, can do a person real harm; that intersects the power beam.

That is total BS! My Father in Law ran legal limits on Ham bands for decades, and had ZERO problems from it! He was running 2,000 watts, and cell phones average 0.100 watts. So that is 20,000 less than what he ran all the time, and he suffered no ill effects over 50 + years of use.
Also noting that the ONLY damage I have ever heard of is from thermal effects from power absorption. It is impossible to overheat tissue in a living organism with a tenth of a watt!

Not only will power transmission be far more efficient with superconductivity, I expect it will be safer, as AC is used because it is far more efficiently transmitted than DC, but AC is deadly. DC is pretty safe. I bet we all know someone that has been killed or injured by being electrocuted. I do.
Being able to transmit DC power with superconductive power lines is not only less expensive in dollars, but in human life.

Power comes in across distances at very high voltages (165,000 volts AC) and the transformers that step this up are vulnerable and power limited. With superconductors, they could send the power at the voltage needed by the consumers.
Most of the expensive equipment is removed in this situation, and the most dangerous voltages are removed.

I note that it is more difficult to generate pressures of millions of atmospheres than to cool things with liquid nitrogen. That's gonna be a difficult trick to pull off before we get the cheap power.
