As always the bad side of the sport leaves a long list of sidelined riders. On the upside though we see two of the classes most promising riders return to race this weekend.
So lets check out the good news first!
Riders returning for MXGP - Portugal
Jeremy Van Horebeek
Returning from a broken finger picked up in Russia. Jeremy has confirmed that even though he has not had a lot of saddle time he feels good enough to compete. Missing out for points in Italy has got him fired up, i hope he can turn his luck around quickly.
Kevin Strijbos
Another rider who has watched from the sidelines with his elbow injury since the MXGP of Europe is Kevin Strijbos. He is very eager to get back and salvage some points.
Riders confirmed out for MXGP - Portugal
Shaun Simpson
As you saw from the nasty crash i posted earlier this week, click here to see post, Shaun will definitely not be riding anytime soon. Arm and elbow injuries will keep him out till an expected August time at the very least...
Hunter Lawrence
So gutted for Hunter! He was riding with so much momentum and results were starting to click for the Suzuki rider. Unfortunatly a smallish crash at the ADAC MX Masters event left him with 2 compressed vertebrae. He wants to return for the MXGP of Great Britan but doctors are urging him to give it more time.
Tommy Searle
Speaking of British riders, Tommy Searle was hoping to be back and riding for Italy last week but unfortunately was not quite ready. He is hoping to get back in the mix for Loket but this will depend if he can shake the hand injury he picked up. Tommy used to ride at the same club i currently do so we are all behind him and hope to see him back soon!
Valentin Guillod
One of the victims of the first turn crash with Jeremy Van Horebeek but he came off worse than the Dutchman... A broken metacarpal in his hand means he wont be back for at least a month :(
Petar Petrov
A nasty shoulder injury picked up in Russia means Petrov is very likely to miss the rest of the season. Not just that but due to his age he will be forced to graduate to the MXGP 450 Class next year. A sad way to complete his 250 MX2 career but hopefully he will be fresh and ready for the big boys!
Jake Nicholls
After dislocating his hip at Terntino #45 will be out for quite some time to come. Such a shame after his amazing season before showed the consistency this guy can bring when fit and healthy. He has taken the sensible approach though and stated he will take the time he needs to recover fully and not rush back into the mix.
Darian Sanayei
The heat at Lombardia last weekend took its toll on Darian and he has chosen to sit this one out. The Monster Energy DRT Kawasaki rider will be back for the next round in the Czech republic though.
Adam Sterry
This is when things are just not fair in life... He was riding to his season best finish at the MXGP of Europe when a nasty mistake has left him with a torn ACL ligament and ended his season outright. Kawasaki have replaced him for the remainder with Morgan Lesiardo, i hope he has more luck.
Chihiro Notsuka
This is something i hate writing about... A huge crash in Argentina left Chihiro with a dislocated hip and fractured back. Somehow reports are coming out that he is aiming to return for the final rounds of this seasons MXGP. I can't see this myself but i wish the Japanese rider a speedy recovery and would love to see him back riding soon.
Samuele Bernardini
Another torn ACL means Samuele will not be back until after the Summer break. TM have drafted in Anton Gole to ride for him this weekend.
Calvin Vlaanderen
What god giveth... he can easily take away! So gutted for Calvin! He grabbed his first podium finnish ever in Latvia and then just days later he crashes and breaks his thumb. He has not even got back to riding yet so everyone is unsure when he will be back with us.
Vsevolod Brylyakov
There is no return date for Brylyakov as he is still suffering from a paralyzed shoulder muscle. I would expect this to be quite a tricky one to predict when he will be back riding.
Arminas Jasikonis showed his best results. Young, fast and motivated.

Hey b0y2k -
Just curious, what do you notice as being the main cause/reason for the injuries? Is it amount of riders out there riding a narrow course at any given time, carelessness, just accidental...?
I love motocross and I'm glad to see your posts. Looking forward to your future content!

Heya @jackthar1ppir,
First and foremost all motorsport carries risk, human bodies are simply not mad to withstand impacts at speed. Motocross is 'slow' in terms of traditional motorsport which you can often see speeds in excess of 150mph!
That being said how fast these guys ride across offroad tracks with ruts, jumps etc and also 40 other bikes in the first corner... is amazing. It does seem like a long list but when you think there are hundreds of riders in these events its actually quite a small percentage.
Rider error is never really the reason. It's mostly due to random events with the bike, ever changing terrain or reacting to a random event from another rider.

Hey b0y2k - Thanks for the reply and I totally agree with you. I feel like motorsport is one of those sports that goes under the radar and is unappreciated as much as it should be. I moved out here to Southern California about 3 years ago from New York and it surprised me how many people are into it...in a good way. One of my buddies that I work with, he made a track in his backyard for his son to get into the sport....it's super sick and the son loves it.
I could never do it but I respect those that do. Again, great post and I look forward to the new content.

It shows how dangerous the sport may be but it also demonstrates the sheer love these men have for motocrossing.
