SUPERMOON
------------------------------
A rare lunar eclipse can be observed in Indonesia and a number of countries on Wednesday night, January 31, 2018. This phenomenon is rare because it coincides when the moon is in a supermoon and blue moon configuration. Therefore, this eclipse is commonly called the Super Moon Moon Blood Moon Eclipse.
The phenomenon of the supermoon occurs when the moon is in its closest distance to Earth in full moon. This causes the full moon size to be 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than usual.
Supermoon on January 31, 2018 night is also the second full moon this month. This full moon is usually separated by 29 days. Typically, each calendar month only has one full moon. When it happens twice a month, this phenomenon is commonly referred to as a blue moon.
This means that supermoon and blue moon will pass through the shadow of the earth. So, when this total lunar eclipse occurs, the super moon will be reddish in color like copper so it is called a blood moon.
Head of Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Dwikorita Karnawati noted this phenomenon only repeated within 150 years. Based on BMKG data, Indonesia is the best location to observe the phenomenon of Super Blue Blood Moon Eclipse in Indonesia stretching from the border of Central Java and East Java to the west of Sumatra.
