I live on the isle known as Borneo. We are separated from our other countrymen by the South China Sea. As a result of that separation, our cultures have evolved to become similar to other countries that we share the Borneo island with, instead of our peninsular brothers and sisters.
Our local cultures are full of countless superstitions and traditions, and every family in Borneo, no doubt, is not exempted from at least practicing one of it. My late grandma was the one who taught me some of these superstitions.
One of her lessons was to not sleep at 5pm until the sun sets, because this is the time when spirits are free to roam around. Not ghost. Other-worldly spirits. According to her, if you were sleeping at 5pm and these spirits walked over your sleeping body, you will never wake up. Your soul lost forever in the dream world.
What are some of your family's superstition?
