The largest wave ever surfed in the world was in Nazaré, Portugal. The wave has won two awards at the 15th edition of the Giant Wave World Championship. The german surfer Sebastien Steudtner won the biggest wave surfing award on December 11, 2014 in the Portuguese village.
The region of Nazaré has gained prominence in recent years by its huge waves, and is already considered the World Surfing Mecca. The site is named as the largest giant wave generator on the planet.

The winners of the world's biggest wave awards were announced in California, United States, on May 1, 2015. The performance of the Portuguese Hugo Vau was also featured in the highest wave category, but the athlete finished in fifth place. German Sebastian Steudtner, who won the Billabong Big Wave Awards, surfed a real mountain of water. The giant wave athlete received $ 10,000 as prize.

For Bill Sharp, director and founder of the Big Wave Awards, 2014 was "a spectacular year" with "great waves for surfing the world".
