A 15-year-old girl hailing from Iraq underwent a rare Kyphoscoliosis spine surgery in Gurgaon. Her case was extremely complicated. The surgery went on for about four hours and was performed by Arun Saroha and his surgical team at Gurgaon's Max Hospital.

The surgical team was able to fix 70 per cent of the Iraqi girl's deformity.

Kyphoscoliosis is a spinal deformity where body structure is affected due to the abnormal curvature of the vertebral column.

The girl had been suffering from the defect since birth and with time, her condition became more critical. Her condition had left her completely bed-ridden with restricted movement.

Her failing health needed immediate medical help but since there was lack of medical infrastructure and resources in her Iraq, her family decided to come to India to avail the facilities.Doctor Saroha explained how difficult and complicated a surgery it was.
Kyphoscoliosis is not only caused due to birth defects but is also a product of hereditary factors, non-symmetrical length of legs, poor posture or neuromuscular issues like cerebral palsy (CP) or muscular dystrophy.
