I'm way late to this party, but I'm reading Gary Lachman's Secret Teachers of the Western World. I can definitely recommend it to anyone interested in how the ancient occult teachings have influenced all cultures throughout the ages. It's really fascinating to see how all of the philosophies have syncretized, diverged, then refused again to create new belief systems over time, and the Hermetic tradition is no small player in that process.
