What do you think of swearing in the workplace?

Why do people feel the need to swear in the workplace? Is it something natural or is it just a sign of another bad habit adopted in the workplace in the face of misunderstanding and lax rules?

Answering the above questions depends on whether you are the person who abuses others with bad language, or the victim that receives this type of behavior.

In my humble opinion, swearing should be reduced and even eliminated in both the workplace and personal life because it does not have anything to offer in terms of solving a problem or making things better.

Swearing does not contribute towards better business management. It rather aggravates any already hard situation, leading to tense workplace relations between employees, superiors and subordinates, demoralizing staff and destroying team spirit.

It could be suggested that occasional swearing in the workplace during periods of stress (for example when production targets need to be met, or in order to discipline workers) is partly justified. Even then, there is no guarantee that swearing can be restrained within strictly defined limits and that there will be no abuse against those receiving bad language. Swearing can easily become just another form of horseplay and it is a way to impose oneself upon fellow workers.
