Phillipe Senderos, the ex-defender of the English club Arsenal, was appointed as the new boss of the Swiss Club Servette on Sunday.
The former leader of the Switzerland International team rose through the ranks of youngsters at his Hometown Geneva side. Later, he transferred to the Arsenal club, AC Milan and Fulham. Following that, he eventually made his way to Valencia and Houston Dynamos.
The 35-years-old decided to retire from the game in December after appearing for the 2nd-tier team of the Switzerland Chiasso.
The ex-center back states that he is happy that he is returning to one of his favorite clubs. He will show great effort and work with a passion for continuing to make the club even better.
Phillipe has claimed the FA Cup with the Gunners in the year 2005 and represented the Swiss side in 2006, 2010, and 2014 in the Football World Cups.
In the previous Swiss Super League campaign, Servette fell at the fourth place in the rankings table and would appear in the next season of the Europa League in the first qualifying round.
The season didn’t complete because of the interruption of the COVID-19 epidemic; following that, the campaign finished on 3 August after the break. The Young Boys lifted the trophy; it was their third time claiming the cup in a row. Read the biography of Alexander Gerndt here.
Maximum one thousand people would be allowed to attend the games starting from 1 October, after Switzerland’s officials lengthen the epidemic crowd lockdown for one more month on Wednesday. The latest Swiss Super League season was scheduled to start on 11 September with the proper safety measures, hence affecting the first three games.
The officials from the Swiss League decided to postpone the start of the season until 9 September 2020, so all the clubs would play two legs (one home and one away) under the proper safety protocols.
