Sorry... although I get free entrance (from volunteer work for helping to keep Mardi Gras safe every year), I feel like this year the Mardi Gras afterparty will be over crowded from over sold tickets and I don’t like the idea of becoming canned sardines - smelly sweaty men and women where there’s no other option but to suck it up and breath in chlamydia because $250 ticket is too much to just go home despite losing your friends after having a bathroom moment or chat to a hottie, and it’s effort and a half to regroup when stuck in the middle of "my feet are sore" and "I’m too drunk to function".. while "dancing" [like a fish] (aka wriggling in a tight spot). I dare ask the organisers, WTF!? If only they just went with a sold out event rather than now releasing new tickets to squeeze more people in what will already be a packed venue.
Let’s not forget the morons who thinks it’s fun for us to save your sorry asses from overdosing on “fish sauce” - not shaming anyone we've all been in similar situations honey but try powdering your nose next time please, so it’s less obvious you’re a penurious mess. Besides, it’s also an effort going home to wash up after a full face and body paint and glitter costume for the parade ($75 blue tiger for me this year) then entering a party where you’ll eventually think I shouldn’t have bothered showering or doing my hair or wearing anything other than loincloth.. should’ve just turned up looking like Avatar. A fish-looking, sweat-smelling, jungle-themed alien like everyone else straight after the parade. Rawr!
So to answer what everyone is asking, as a Sydney local, what’s the positives to expense all the effort and money (incl over-priced drinks with queues to boot) going to a “once in a lifetime event” having been too many times before that you won’t get to experience someplace else? Cher? Men? Fun? Life after love??
Thanks but no thanks. There's plenty of other events to celebrate Gay Christmas down under.
PS. The parade is a highlight. Super fun [and safe]. I always highly recommend for everyone to participate... and Fair Day!
