Synereo Standalone Node

Today I successfully installed the latest alpha version of Synereo standalone node. The setup went smoothly and by the book. I didn't actually time it but it was working in less than 30 minutes.

For all who are interested I will prepare step by step instructions in the next days . The tutorial will be one more place to go and look at besides official instructions found on Synereo GitHub and Docker Hub.

The Machine

I have a virtual machine with latest Ubuntu at hand running in VirtualBox on Windows 10 desktop. It has 6 GB of RAM available.

The Instructions

I followed steps published at Docker Hub. I installed docker engine and then Synereo node image. It all installed without a single hiccup.

The Site

Then I opened up https://172.17.0.1 which is actually node's address inside docker image.

I was able to login as an admin.

Creating A New User

I was also able to create a new user and publish my first post. You can see it as a cover image. Nothing fancy but it is a proof of work which I wanted to get.

This is the lone step not covered in the instructions. The workaround is described here.

The Help

The help from the friends on Synereo Slack chanells was invaluable for setting up and installing the node.

botgreen, n, samsepioleand and all of you - thank you, guys. You rock! I can't praise you enough.

The Verdict

This is an early alpha version and it should be taken as such. Installing it is simply a gesture of thank you for the dev team and a hard work they are putting into it. It is a perpetual process of rinse and repeat as many of you are well aware.

The Future

This post is only a note to let you know that alpha node is available and can be installed by mere mortals like me :)

As promised I'll post more detailed steps in the near future.

I will also ditch this install and try it again with some cloud provider. To check if it is easily repeatable with various cloud solutions providers. Maybe next week.

In the mean time check the news:

The second news really merits a post on its own since it is, in my opinion, extremely important for a successful future of the project.

PS

I took me more to write this post than to install the node :)

Hello, @anns. Thank you for the reply and the question.

At the time being the minimum requirement would be 4 GB of RAM on a linux, Mac or Windows machine (version 8 and above) for the node.

Since these are really early days mobile devices are not in the equation - yet.
