A day and a bit ago my computer decided to corrupt my graphics drivers.

I tried to recover them (without a screen or visuals) but failed dismally. So I cleared my system harddrive and started from new: a new Windows 10 installation from zero. I have to admit, the installation process with Windows is a lot smoother than it ever has been, even autoregistering my Tech Insider legal key for me. It even installed all the drivers I needed - including the Nvidia ones.. say what!? But then I had a huge mountain of accounts to log back into, software to install and configure - plus some. This put my work behind a couple of days, and I'm still configuring everything all over again. But nice.. I fixed Windows 10 and it's Task View hotkey issues while in the process, also added features I've always wished to the OS. Also, my harddrive is now half as full and everything loads faster - and I cleaned out a lot of software I've generally never touched. Why not take the time to clean out the old machine!? I've hadn't had to a clean reinstall since more than 2 years now - good work Windows 10. Also, the error was due to a software I used to try remove junk files, human error. Completely preventable. I like this OS.

So here is my new Bforaritsts layout - tuned to personal taste. IT's a UI friendly version of Blender 2.79a.

I can't wait till Blender releases 2.8 and Bforartists continues to develop on the UI. Cheers!

I'm tempted to install the experimental version of Blender.

Do it! It's really Blender is a slightly more organized and iconized UI, and defaults are a little more pleasant and compatible with software from Autodesk or others. But in essence it's not that much different (you can even continue with Blender hotkeys if you want.)
Everything is just a little easier to discover. I have to admit I only learned of Blender features AFTER discovering them in the UI of #BFA - even after years of using Blender.

Thanks for the info .... will do it.

I had to Factory reset mine a couple of months ago, but it still isn't working the way I want it to. Thinking of getting rid of this old desktop and getting a new laptop... providing I win the lottery soon! :)

huehue, any computer upgrade is nice. I want also.

Why isn't working how you'd like now? What do you want to improve? Is it mostly performance?

To be honest, I'm missing a mobile workstation sometimes. I have a couple of towers, my main one was the one that corrupted the driver. But.. having a laptop would be great. Hope you get your new machine sorted out.

Yay for fresh starts! Though I understand the pain of reinstalling and relogging in only too well XD I actually loved the account migrations on the Macs, made everything blissfully quick and easy, but didn't really love the cruft that often brought along with it XD

I had a mac once, but more than 60% of my 2D/3D software doesn't work on a Mac. Do you currently use the Mac OS? How do you feel about the deprecating OpenGl they are doing?

I'm currently using Linux (specifically Manjaro).

I don't have any specific feelings about the OpenGL deprecations XD OpenGL is probably long overdue for a complete overhaul or replacement and if Metal does the job better then that's great, but it would have to be cross-platform (which I vaguely heard rumours about but haven't bothered actually looking into yet) to actually be useful. It's just extremely inconvenient in the meantime because as far as I know that's the only thing that works on everything.
