Ganesh chaturthi is a one of the biggest festival in India.
Ganesh Chaturthi is observed during the month of 'Bhadra'(mid augest or in September). There are several stories surrounding the 'Birth of Ganesha' as well as how "Ganesha Chaturthi" came to be celebrated as such a fervour.
'Ganesh Chaturthi' is the the festival of 10 days. It is celebrated to honour the Lord Ganesha, the son of Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva. Ganesha is celebrated as God of all beginnings or God of knowledge and is worshipped before any rituals or ceremony as he is known to ward off the evils, remove obstacles in one's life and bring prosperity. The popularity of this big festival is that it brings together people of all caste and religion.
People celebrate it by preparing models of lord Ganesha and decorating it with some various colour and lightings. They also light lamps beside it as a sign of 'spreading of bright light'.
May this year's Ganesh Chaturthi bring happiness, peace and prosperity in each's life.
