The 2000 series watch (later named Aquaracer) was re-launched in 1998 as a part of a new strategy. This was a time of turmoil and transformation as the quartz Crisis has just got over. In fact, the effects of the Crisis were still visible.

The name Formula 1 name itself is enough to entice a feeling of excitement and joy among sports watch enthusiasts. The TAG Heuer Formula 1 collection is a reminder of the true roots of the Swiss watchmaker. The Formula 1 series represents the racing DNA that Tag Heuer was originally known for.
The Formula 1 collection also holds huge significance for the brand. The watch was launched as a measure to counter the ill effects of the Japanese Quartz Crisis. The watch is a product of innovation as it was the first one from TAG Heuer to offer a battery powered mechanism. Even today, it is the only watch from the brand to host a quartz movement despite the fact that it is also available with automatic movements.
