Fun statistics about myself as tag abuser

in tagabuse •  7 years ago

I just got a friendly warning to tell me that I was abusing the tag introduceyourself. And the warning was fully correct as I should not have used it. But I did, because I noticed numerous people do use that tag for other things then introduction of who they are. And I thought my post could be relevant for newbies.

Luckily I didn't get flagged. Otherwise my average number of flags would be above 1 per month. But that's a whole kind of different story 🤐

Wel it's a good thing to see this development. Finally a bot that only seems to be doing good things. Great!

Statistics about tag abuse for introduceyourself

I just checked 50 posts and noticed that 10 of those should not have this tag. So that's about 20% from my quick and dirty sample. This could be representative, but I'm quite sure my sample is to small.

Anyways I had a feeling that the percentage was much higher a few weeks ago. So maybe the bot is doing fine.

Now I wonder how high the tag abuse is for some other tags? The ones where you could really earn some money. Cause my feeling says this is also something that's happening. But so far I only read 1 story about it. Perhaps I dig in to that next time. For now, Sweet dreams!

It is abused everywhere. People do think that the have to fill in all 5 tags. They are jut trying to expose their posts!

5 tags is pretty minimal. I think of 10+ tags sometimes that would be relevant to my posts, but I only use 5. And I would say that it isn't abuse to expose your blogs with relevant tags, no matter how many are used. Relevant is relevant. I do believe you can add extra tags just by hashtagging words in your blogs. I have not tried this of course, because I don't think it will make much of a difference on steemit. I could of course be wrong. Perhaps I will give it a try!

It could be done easily by adding # with a word without a space.
Could imagine that there could be reasons that a post deserves so many tags but I was refering to post about food with bitcoin as tag 🤔

Yes improper tagging is uncalled for. That is surely an attempt to abuse tagging, but some posts have relevance to multiple tags. That's all I mean. I really don't see the need to use more than 5 tags for any given post personally.

I was once warned for using the introduceyourself tag for my daily doge giveaways. I thought it would be a good idea to expose the new users to some of what steemit has to offer from its members. I still think it was a good idea, but I did indeed heed the warning.

I think we don't have to worry much about this, because people who don't play fair, automatically disqualify themselves in this system... Good post!

I don't think it is that simple. Hard to explain for me. But take the @haejin flagging war as example.

O, ok. i think i know what you mean. But people do downvote others who misbehave, right? Well, i'm not long enough here to understand it all. But i hope action will be taken to those who want to abuse the system.
