TAJ MAHAL
The Taj Mahal is located in city of Agra, which is 250 Km from New Delhi, Capital of India. Taj Mahal was built by a Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, in memory of his most beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. They got married in 1612 and had seven children. Shah Jahan became the Mughal Emperor in 1628 and three years later his beloved wife died shortly after giving birth to another child. Shah Jahan was completely heartbroken as he lost his most beloved wife. Many stories suggests that Emperor once promised his wife that he would present her most expensive and memorable gift which has never ever been presented to anyone in history and he also promised her that he will do something exceptional for her so that till the time world is into its existence people will always remember and cherish them. Shockingly before Shah Jahan could fulfill his promise Mumtaz Mahal his lovely and most beautiful wife died. To keep his promise Shah Jahan began the project of building a tomb for his wife called the Taj Mahal in 1632.
The Taj Mahal is located on the banks of the Yamuna River. It took twenty-two years to complete Taj. Almost 20,000 workers, 1,000 Elephants continuously worked for 22 years without a single day break to finish the project. Taj Mahal has four minarets each one is 138 ft. tall. It sits on a 315 ft. square marble platform. Each side has a 110 ft. arch and center dome is around 200 ft. high. Taj is the most beautiful example Islamic style of architecture.
Centered in the building is a tomb for Mumtaz Mahal. Next to her tomb, is the tomb for Shah Jahan which was placed after his death so that both the couples could rest in peace together even after death and even death couldn’t part them. Shah Jahan had plans to build another Taj Mahal for himself on the other side the river which would supposedly be made of black marble so that after his death also he could see and admire his wife Mumtaz Mahal resting on other side of river Yamuna.
He could not fulfill his dream to make another Black Taj for himself as he was overthrown by his own son and imprisoned in the Red Fort within sight of the Taj Mahal. He spent his last eight years of his life in prison admiring Taj till he died. Whenever you planning to visit Taj Mahal, visit with your beloved one’s and feel the immortal Love.
There is a famous saying in India that “There are only two types of people in this world, One those who have see Taj and another Who haven’t.”
