In France her name is La Chaperone Rouge, in Germany, Rotkäppchen, and the funny thing is her name in the Czech Republic —Červená Karkulka ("červená Karkulka"). Little red riding Hood know around the world, but little whom known history this stories.
For the first time the tale of little red riding Hood heard in Europe in the XIV century. Like many fairy tales that later became children's, at first it was not a child, but a terrible and nasty. For example, a wolf does not eat his grandmother, but prepares some vile food from her and feeds it to his granddaughter. And no rescue lumberjacks at the end!
Charles Perrault was the first to remove horrors from the tale in 1697. He dressed little Red riding Hood in little red riding hood: before in the fairy tale it was not specified how the girl deceived by a wolf was dressed.
Perrault had given her not just a cap, but a chaperone, a headdress that was no longer worn in the cities at that time, and was still to be found in the villages. Thus it was emphasized that little Red riding Hood is a village girl, "from the people", and this story happened, most likely, a long time ago.
In the usual form of a fairy tale recorded brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm in 1812. Jacob Grimm, the eldest of the brothers, was a great lover of antiquities, ancient legends and myths, and for a time served as the personal librarian of Jerome Bonaparte, younger brother of Emperor Napoleon I.
Most likely, it was then that Jacob Grimm heard the story of a vicious and cunning wolf that attacked the children and women of the French County of Gevaudan almost 50 years ago. From 1764 to 1767, the wolf of gevaudan, or, as it was more often called, "the monster of gevaudan", attacked people more than 200 times, killing almost 100 people.
Eyewitnesses told of a terrible beast, compared to which the famous dog Baskervilles seem poodle. Incredibly huge and strong, the wolf was scored and rare cunning. The king of France personally sent his best hunters to catch or kill this monster, but he always managed to escape. The local Governor sent in Gevaudan a detachment of 50 soldiers, but they are unable to find and kill gevaudan.
Residents locked themselves in their homes and did not go out alone. Many called geodesco wolf "werewolf" say: he is able by imitating the human voice, to call the travellers by name, and lure the unwary in the woods or in a swamp.
Some still managed to escape-almost like little red Riding hood. One day, seven peasant children were walking from the village of Villars when they were attacked by the beast of gevaudan. However, the children were not afraid: they had sticks with knives tied, and they were able to fend off the monster.
The most courageous was 12-year-old Jacques Portfolio, and as a reward for bravery, the king of France personally ordered to give the boy an education. When Jacques grew up, he became a Lieutenant of artillery in the French army.
Another time the monster attacked the group of girls from the village Polak-EN-Margarid. One of the girls, Marie-Jean Valle, grabbed a wooden stake and inflicted a serious wound on the beast, after which he ran away — so she escaped herself and saved her friends.
After three years, the attacks stopped. But the riddle remained a mystery: was this monster a wolf? Eyewitnesses said that the beast "looks like a wolf, but not a wolf": it was a predatory beast of huge size, with a mouth full of sharp teeth, but with a long thin tail and hooves instead of claws.
In addition, wolf claims to have never howled like howling dogs or wolves, and his voice is rather reminiscent of human laughter. The wolf's skin was not gray or black, but a light brown with dark spots. Finally, the "wolf" was running around the rocks and the swamps, and during the attack, often stood on its hind legs, what real wolves never do.
In the late nineteenth century, scientists discovered the bones of ancient predators, of mazonai such as Andrzej or sinonyx. These animals were very large, with a long thin tail, a huge mouth with sharp teeth and hooves instead of claws.
Description "geodesco monster" in many parts remarkably coincides with the conclusions of scientists. For example, scientists believe that mesonychia lived in coastal or marshy areas. "The beast of gevaudan", the memoirs of contemporaries, is also incredibly skillfully hid from the hunters in the swamps. But the mesonychia became extinct more than 30 million years ago. Where did such a beast come from in eighteenth-century France?
A hundred years later, a previously unknown cave was discovered in Chauvet, near the County of Gevaudan. More than 400 ancient rock paintings were found inside. The drawings depicted animals: horses, deer, extinct woolly rhinoceros, as well as predators — lions, bears, wolves and a mysterious beast, which scientists called "Panther of Chauvet".
Huge size, with skin, covered spots, with thin long one tail and head, a similar on a wolf's or bear's. This animal does not like the Panther, but it is very reminiscent of great ancient masonii and "geodesco monster." So, just 30,000 years ago, prehistoric hunters knew an animal that lived on Earth 30 million years ago? 30 thousand years for biology a very short time...
