Yesterday was a rollercoaster of emotions, ending with a frustrating tech issue. I was determined to upgrade my USB sticks to a format that would work seamlessly across my devices - Linux and Android. NTFS seemed like the logical choice, but fate, in the form of a delicious rice and beans dinner, intervened. As I savored my simple yet satisfying meal, I accidentally knocked the USB stick, interrupting the formatting process.
Disappointed but not defeated, I finished dinner and retreated to my room. The next morning, I resumed the formatting mission only to discover that NTFS isn't compatible with Android. So, I switched to Ext4, my preferred file system, but to no avail - Android still didn't recognize it. It seems I'll have to stick with FAT32 for my Android-compatible drive and use Ext4 for the others, a less-than-ideal solution.
Today started off slow due to a fascinating conversation with a fellow dorm resident. She's an incredible young woman who has spent the past two years traveling the world and has plans to explore even more. Her stories were captivating, and I encouraged her to share her adventures with the world through a blog. I'm excited to see where her journey takes her.
After our inspiring chat, I ventured out to tackle some errands. Paying rent is never a highlight, especially when it involves a trip to the bank. I recommend using DTB (Diamond Trust Bank) if you're in Tanzania or Kenya; they don't charge extra fees for cash withdrawals.
Next stop: finding a café with reliable internet. Unfortunately, the first two I tried were out of luck, the second due to power outage, a common occurrence in Tanzania. Finally, I settled into the hostel bar, where I'm currently enjoying a cup of tea and typing this blog post.
Just as I was about to wrap up, I remembered a strange sensation I felt last night around 8:30 pm. At first, I thought I'd accidentally bumped the table, but it turned out to be a minor earthquake on the foot of Kilimanjaro! It was quite an experience, and I found an online report confirming a 4.6 magnitude quake between here and Nairobi.
That's all for now. I'll include a screenshot of the earthquake report for your reference. Until next time!
Transferring the earthquake screenshot from my phone to my laptop was a real pain today. Usually, it's a quick and easy process, but not this time.
Tonight, I'm tackling my storage situation. I'll clean up and reformat my USB drives for better file management. Considering dedicating my larger SSD for general use and the smaller one exclusively for phone photos.
All photos in this post were taken today, except for the dinner picture from yesterday and the earthquake screenshot sourced from the internet.
