[ENG/ESP] OSTARA + TAROT TUESDAY / OSTARA + MARTES DE TAROT

Blessed Ostara, y'all!

¡Bendecido Ostara para todos!

The Spring Equinox, the day Winter heaves out its last breath and Life takes over the land once again, has been celebrated for centuries in different forms. To the ancient greeks, it marked the return of Persephone from the Underworld, leaving behind Her husband Hades and Her kingdom, to sit at Her mother Demeter's side as the Flower Maiden, the young and innocent Kore, making Demeter rejoice and make the Earth fertile and lush again (though some theorize that the "dead season" for the greek was Summer instead of Winter, but that's a story for another day). Older traditions said that today marks the return of Dumuzid/Tammuz, husband to the Goddess of Love and War and Queen of Heaven Inanna/Ishtar, from the Underworld; or even the return of said Goddess after a failed ploy to overthrow Her sister Ereshkigal (Queen of the Underworld) to take Her Throne and become Queen of Everything. Other myths include Jarilo getting out of the Underworld, Brigid growing in power, and so on. It's even said the name Ostara comes from a Germanic Goddess, Eostre, who embodied Spring and nature.

El Equinoccio Primaveral, el día en que el Invierno deja salir su último suspiro y la Vida se apodera del mundo una vez mas, ha sido celebrado desde hace siglos en distintas formas. Para los antiguos griegos, marcaba el retorno de Perséfone del Inframundo, dejando atrás a su esposo Hades y Su reino, para reunirse con Su madre Demeter para volver a ser la Doncella de las Flores, la joven e inocente Kore, dando tanta alegría a Demeter que devolvía la fertilidad y la belleza a la tierra (aunque algunos tienen la teoría de que la "estación muerta" para los griegos era el Verano y no el Invierno, pero eso es una historia para otro día). Tradiciones mas antiguas hablaban de Dumuzid/Tammuz, esposo de la Diosa del Amor y la Guerra y Reina del Cielo Inanna/Ishtar, retornando del Inframundo; o incluso, del retorno de Inanna al mundo luego de un intento fallido de robarle el Trono Infernal a su hermana Ereshkigal para ser Reina de Todo. Otros mitos incluyen el regreso de Jarilo, Brigid creciendo en poder, y aun mas. Incluso se dice que el nombre Ostara viene de una Diosa germanica, Eostre, quien encarnaba la Primavera y la naturaleza.

Undeniably, today is marked by Spring taking its full power, blessings of new life and joy accompanying Her. You can even find it in christianized forms; the word Easter and some of the elements more common in english-speaking countries (such as the Easter Eggs and the Easter rabbits) are more in line with this feast's nature as a fertility celebration than they are with the jewish Passover and the Holy Week during which Christ sacrificed Himself. So if you have a moment to spare, I encourage you to meditate upon this time, upon the start of this new cycle and the flourishing energies it brings, and think on what intentions you want to see blooming this season.

Innegablemente, el día de hoy festeja a la Primavera en su máximo esplendor, viniendo con bendiciones de vida nueva y alegría. Puedes incluso notarlo en celebraciones cristianas; la palabra inglesa "Easter" y algunos de los elementos que aparecen en esta fecha (Los Huevos de Pascua, el Conejo de Pascua) tienen mas que ver con este festival de fertilidad que con la Pascua judía y la Semana Santa en que Cristo fue sacrificado. Así que si tienes un momento que puedas utilizar, te exhorto a que medites en este instante respecto al comienzo de este nuevo ciclo y las energías que este brinda, y piensen en que intenciones quieres ver florecer durante esta temporada.
