Happy #tarottuesday, steemians!

I'm using the Mythic tarot again this week. I really love the references to Greek mythology and how it deviates - sometimes subtly, sometimes drastically - from the Rider-Waite tradition.

So as usual I've drawn three cards for you this week and I invite you to pick 1, 2, or all 3 cards, in any order you like. Whatever takes your fancy.

The symbols and archetypes in the cards provide us with ideas to focus upon, or new ways of looking at things which you hadn't previously thought of. So, whatever comes up, remember to use your own judgement and intuition in any decision making.

Let's see what came up this week...

Seven of Pentacles

The Sevens have their roots in The Chariot. The chariot is the means to surge to victory, but it also challenges us to ask why we consider this victory necessary. Analyse your motivations, and don’t act impulsively, or you risk losing.

The pentacles from the previous card, the six, are now part of a sturdy pillar. The woman brings a seventh pentacle to the man for something she wants done. But the man looks puzzled - “Why are you asking this of me?” Success and failure are wrapped up together in this card. We can succeed only if we know (and can articulate) exactly why we must win, as well as what we must win. It is not a time for acting impatiently or in frustration. Calm reflection about the goal and the reasons for the goal is required if you want to win the seventh pentacle without completely upsetting the balance of things.

Nine of Pentacles

The nines are rooted in the Hermit. But the nine of pentacles doesn’t show someone who retreats to a barren place. Instead he retreats to his beautiful sanctuary, his very own slice of paradise.

And why not? He’s earned it. It’s all his. This card doesn’t signify that he is filthy rich, but he’s comfortable, stable, healthy, secure. There is just enough. And he’s happy with that. Does this sound like you? If so, the independent little world you have built for yourself is worthy of respect. Just don’t hide yourself away there all the time. There’s a whole world out there, and we are social creatures after all. But you can meet that world safe in the knowledge that you can go back to your sanctuary anytime you need to, on your terms.

Knight of Swords

As court cards, Knights can be considered numberless. However, this card clearly has energy of Two. There is duality in this card. As this suit is linked to the element of Air, the duality makes us think straight away of Gemini.

Is there a man in your life, of adolescent character? Is he helping or hurting you? Granted, he has an impressive logic which can help you cut through the bullshit, but he also has a sharp tongue and impulsive nature which can do you damage if you’re not careful. Is he on your side one minute, then off on some ‘teenage’ adventure which seems completely age inappropriate? Does he exhibit an almost schizophrenic attitude to your relationship? Calmly state your boundaries and lovingly bring him back down to earth. Avoid displaying excessive anger, lest a breeze becomes a hurricane. Alternatively, if you are feeling excited to tag along for this wild ride, be acutely aware that it will necessarily leave change in its wake.
