Look no further than the Lock Bar and Kitchen for a delicious meal with stunning views.

Atmosphere:

From the moment I stepped inside the swanky restaurant, I spotted former boxer Prince Naseem Hamed walking out with a big smile. From his expression, I was expecting a 'knock out' evening - and the kitchen certainly delivered.

One of its selling points is that the restaurant sits on the banks of the River Thames which creates a stunning atmosphere.

The venue, which is inside the Runneymede-on-Thames Hotel and Spa, Surrey, has a posh gastro pub décor. But it is far from pretentious with its friendly staff, and hearty food.

Food:

The restaurant claims to serve up home style cooking and this was certainly the case with its starter dishes - Leek And Potato Soup, Butternut Squash Risotto, and John Ross Smoked Salmon which was served with Soda Bread and Chive Creme Fraiche.

The only difference was that the food, which was created by head chef David Coutts, was of amazing quality.

The fishcakes were not made with your average cod. Instead, I was spoilt with the mix of salmon and haddock meat that was dished up on a bed of peas and lettuce. Other popular mains, which had an interesting twist on classic recipes, included Cod, Big Chip which was served with Pea Puree, as well as Breast of Chicken, served with Endive and Confit Potatoes. However, it is worth noting that the menu changes regularly to reflect seasonal produce.

The portions were also massive, which I assume, was a nod to the fact the restaurant used to be an American styled diner, before it was recently revamped.

They old saying ‘the proof of the pudding is in the eating’ certainly came to life when I glanced at the dessert menu which was jam packed with mouth-watering treats.

If you have had a heavy meal then I'd recommend the Creme Brulee because the texture was light and creamy. It was also crammed with juicy fruits which added an interesting twist to the dessert.

However, for a hearty pudding then I’d recommend the Crumble of The Day. But if you really can not decide, then opt for the Chocolate Pecan Brownie with Fudge Sauce – which was gooey and delicious.

The bar was also well stocked with juices and alcoholic beverages. But I'd recommend the non alcoholic cocktails. In particular, the Frozen Mint Lemonade, which tasted like a virgin mojito, was very refreshing - especially when it is accompanied by a heavy but tantalising meal.

This is a great restaurant. It is a posh version of having a pub lunch and great for family gatherings. The views are great especially in the summer.
