Noodles are the big star of most Vietnamese dishes. Here you can find a lot of rice too, however, the noodles are much more popular. If you’re walking on the streets of Vietnam is not hard to see a stall selling Pho. This is, for sure, the most popular noodle of Vietnam. Super flavored and comfy, Pho Ga or chicken Pho become my favorite! I share a little bit more of this amazing dish on the contest today!
What is Pho?
Pho is Vietnam’s most popular noodle and also is considered as the country’s staple food.
This dish was born around 1880 in Nam Dinh Province in the north of Vietnam. It has been the perfect representation of modern Vietnamese cuisine mixed with French and Cantonese influences. The name “pho” comes from “pot-au-feu” a french dish made with beef stewed.
Pho is commonly sold as street food from morning to evening. Since 1939, pho started to be served with chicken and then comes the famous “pho ga”.
The traditional recipe has a broth that is cooked for more than 12 hours. It takes dry spices, some chilies, and meat cuts.
Pho is also served with coriander, mint and some herbs. The noodle is also important because if the noodles are to tick than pho will become Mi Quang, which is another delicious noodle of Vietnam.
Sai Gon Pho
Saigon Pho is a very simple place, but with delicious pho! The lady that serves is a typical Vietnamese old lady and super lovely and gentle. As you will see, the chairs and tables as pretty small like most of the traditional Vietnamese places. Don’t know why, but Vietnamese really enjoy to eat and have coffee on squatting position. So, in really traditional places this is what you get!
The place is so simple that they even don’t have a menu. You need to put your fingers on a sign on the wall to show the lady what you want!
The pho is really delicious, served with fresh herbs. Despite the place is really simple, I believe that it is a great chance to eat like a local!
