Living along the Mekong River, there's without a doubt that the seafood that is sold in HCMC is as fresh as you can get. Even the locals here claimed that fishmongers here sell it to those in Hanoi and the price in Hanoi for seafood is twice as expensive as compared to what you can get in HCMC.
Though I haven't tried buying seafood in Hanoi but I can say confidently that seafood in HCMC is definitely cheap. When I drop by to the local wet market, fishmongers are selling fishes that are still alive. Never in life have ever seen so many fishes still alive in the market. It's usually frozen fish that I get.
As such, when my dad come down together with his siblings to HCMC, it only makes perfect sense to bring them to enjoy the local street seafood. This is my second time coming to this shop which is located along the streams of Mekong River. There's alot of small restaurants similar to this in which the locals go to for their daily food, even if it's just a simple dinner.
However, for me this is one seafood restaurant that I would return again. Firstly, it beacuse the food is good and the Lady Boss actually speaks English so it's very easy to communicate.
We were recommended many dishes but since I was here before I knew what dishes we should have. One of it is stir fried fresh prawns with french beans served on rice crackers. Absolutely yummy !
Next is stir fried fresh squidd with onions and served with fish sauce. Also, another signature dish in many Vietnamese restaurants. This seafood is very common here. I don't think I've seen so many squidd served in one country as I have here.
The highlights of our dinner was the BBQ Fresh Scallops, served well with the local Saigon beer. This is like the perfect closure for our dinner. There was no space for dessert anymore especially when we other dishes such as fried frog meat and also fried rice.
With so much food for just five of us, we agreed that we need a bit of exercise before heading home abd being a potato couch in that small two-bedroom apartment of mine. So, off we went to Bui Vien Street, this is like the Night Life of Saigon, a place which I may go to bring my tourist friends but not for myself :)
So, if you're ever in HCMC, make sure you drop by this restaurant and you'll be surprised with the freshness of its seafood and of course you only end up paying a small fraction of what I ever pay back home.
For five of us, the check came to only approximately VND650,000 = USD27.91 = MYR114.98
Don't you agree that it's worth it !
