You need to cross a bridge to eat the noodle??!!

Of course not! This type of rice noodle soup is actually a well-known dishes in Yunnan, China, which I only found out when I look at the menu's story. Mixian is a type of rice noodle from China's Yunnan Province, it's quite silky and slippery after cooked, it's usually sold fresh, not like the other dried pack Bihun (Rice Vermicelli) or Yellow Noodle which have the after taste.

I was actually attracted by the smell when I first passed by the place, it has a very familiar smell from my childhood, maybe was from my mom's cooking or something. I finally went back again and found the dish that I think where the smell comes from and ordered it.

From the menu, you can see their main dished are soups and noodles. It usually comes in a large bowl of soup and noodle, then the side ingredients will be added in step by step.

I ordered Braised Spare Ribs Mixian. Braised Spare Ribs usually a must dish in a most Chinese household in the old day, my mom will cook with bihun, or cook with potatoes... There are many ways to eat it, I guess that's why the smell is always in memory.

The soup that I ordered was a bit ordinary, but not too bad, there are the ribs, black fungus and shredded carrots. I couldn't get enough of the ribs, they gave too little portions of it... Hahaha... I love the noodle, I might want to try their rice next time.

The price is not that pricy considering it's inside the mall. RM11.90 is about USD2.85.

There seems to be a beautiful to the name of this dish.

Below is roughly the translated English version from the Chinese story stated on the menu of this restaurant.

The story begins with a scholar who was studying hard for his imperial exams on a small island. His wife, who would bring him food, found that by the time she had crossed the bridge to the island the soup would be cold and the noodles were soggy. She then decided to load a large earthen pot with boiling broth with a layer of oil on top that would act as insulation and keep the broth warm. The noodles and other ingredients were kept in a separate container, and when she arrived, she mixed the two containers together for a warm soup.
Source from Wikipedia

It seems because of the wife, the scholar passed the exam with flying colour. To remember the wife's support thus he named the dish "Crossing Bridge Noodle". And the method was passed on for generations in the Yunnan Province.

I hope you enjoy the story and the dish today, until next review, see you soon.

Very interesting story about the dish. I love adding food to the soup so it is not soggy and cold! And after eating in the US for so many years, they is NEVER enough meat for me here!

Spare ribs... yum yum... Thanks ya!

Thank for sharing this information with me, those noodles looks great! It looks like the perfect comfort food. May you have a great day!

I wonder how long the bridge is? If the soup gets cold when the wife reached her husband, then the bridge must be quite long. Or maybe the weather at Yunnan is freezing cold back then. Good review!
