Today I went with my wife to a mall called Phoenix Market City in Kurla region of Mumbai. She had to do some shopping. After she was done we sat down at Fat (Food and Taste) Theory.
We chose the place based on pics we saw online of the food. It presentation of the dishes looked really looked interesting so we decided to give it a go.
The above is a view of the place from the outside. It immediately makes one want to see the interiors, and those swing chairs persuade one to walk into the restaurant. The restaurant isn't too big, may be had a seating capacity of 50. The decor however is very modern and colourful, with an influence of Indian art-deco.
We didn't get to sit in the swing like chairs. We were seated on a table of 2 and just have a look at the table top -
Hand painted, covered by glass top and looked beautiful. I really think a clean and cheerful place builds up even more appetite.
The menu was a mix of Indian and Italian, and also had a few South Asian dishes. We were disappointed by the lack of meat options, but now that we were seated and eating cheese puffs (welcome snacks), we had to order.
I don't think any place should ever serve cheese puffs to start with. And I hope Indian restaurants learn the conept of a focused menu. Anyway, let's talk about the good things.
We ordered Arabbiatta pasta and Spaghetti Pesto, as well as Piri Piri chips with cheese dip.
The pesto in the pasta was very good. The olive oil was also good cold pressed extra virgin, as I could taste good olive oil. Pasta was overcooked as far as I am concerned but the chillie flakes added a welcome kick.
The Arabbiatta had a good portion of veggies. The sause was very well cooked and I generally like tomato based pastas over cream based pasta. I also liked the garlic bread served with both pastas. I was very hungry any amount of extra food was great. The red sauce also had a spicy kick but the tomato was overpowering it. I am sure that this may have been due to addition of ketchup or tomato puree to make the sauce thicker. Just fresh tomatoes would have been nicer.
Chips were something we'd ordered as starters, They came at the end of the meal. The dip was amazing. It wasn't as cheesy as I'd thought it may be and had perfect consistently. The flavour was like American spiced cheese, really nice.
That's it. We were very full amd happy after the meal. On a scale of 1 to 5, one being worst, 5 being best, I ratethis place 4, for its welcoming ambience and good tasting
